CLASSICAL BALLET

ZAV_6280_1.jpg

We believe classical ballet is the foundation upon which any other dance style should be built. Ballet students learn to control their bodies, gain necessary strength, stamina, and flexibility to be able to excel in other dance styles.

The ballet we teach is the classic Vaganova style ballet (think of Russian ballet). It might seem demanding, but believe us you will be surprised what kind of impact it had.

Our principal teacher is Karina Melikyan, who has been studying ballet professionally for her entire life. KKSD is proud to offer ballet classes for all ages and levels, tots to teenagers, as well as conditioning ballet and technique for adults of any age. Private ballet classes are available upon request and upon availability.

CHARACTER DANCES

Character dance is a specific subdivision of classical dance. It is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance. The movements and the music of the character dances are adapted for ballet and theater performances. Character dance is an important part of the classical ballet repertoire.

MODERN DANCES

Modern dance is a genre that includes several dance styles such as classical ballet, folk, ethnic, religious, and social dancing. It primarily arose out of Europe and the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was considered to have been developed as a rejection of classical ballet and also a way to let the body express the feelings in more free forms.
